Website Facelift 2021
KALDEWEI's brand communication underwent a number of changes in 2020: certain corporate design elements were removed, while others were altered, and new elements added. Naturally, this had an impact on the corporate website that we have been managing and developing since 2014. The aim was to adapt the website to the updated corporate design. At the same time, the navigation system was to be made more intuitive and information was to be made available more quickly in the appropriate context.
This project was run at the same time as setting up an interface between the CMS and PIM.

Description of the project
Migration from CSC to FSC
The frontend rendering in this project was migrated from CSC (CSS Styled Content) to FSC (Fluid Styled Content) to allow us to continue to develop more future-centrically using TYPO3 8.7. FSC is a modern version of content rendering in TYPO3 and was introduced in TYPO3 version 8 as an alternative core module to display content. It has been the standard rendering module since TYPO3 version 9, and so the current installation has already been future-proofed by migrating to FSC. It also provides significant benefits in terms of website performance and ensures faster development processes.
Content inventory and clean-up
The content repository has been fully restructured, merged and added to for more intuitive user guidance. The website content has grown strongly over the years and has become widely ramified. A new structure has merged the content, enabling users to access it more easily and directly.
We have added valuable dynamic content at numerous places, which speeds up the configuration and design process for architects and bathroom designers, and also makes it more convenient.
New features & elements
A number of new content elements were created as part of the facelift, and new features were designed and incorporated to increase the user friendliness of the website, and to direct users more quickly to the information they require. The product area – the heart of a manufacturer's corporate website – has been totally redesigned. It has the aim of providing intuitive user guidance (including easy-to-use and informative filter options) and comprehensive advice (among other things by directly linking design data to matching complementary products).
Technical improvements were made in parallel:
- WebP: Images for improved performance in modern browsers with a fallback solution
- Native lazy loading for images in modern browsers with a fallback solution
SEO: Redirection concepts
In all cases, search engine optimisation (SEO) is crucial in all restructuring and migration processes. A detailed redirection concept was defined in advance to effectively redirect the link juice. The concept redirects users and crawlers from the old website to the new website structure. It enables search engines to learn the new destination URLs and forward rankings accordingly.
