Recap: TYPO3 Developer Days 2024
The TYPO3 Developer Days 2024, which once again took place in Karlsruhe this year, are a regular highlight for the TYPO3 community. From July 31 to August 4, developers, integrators, designers and other enthusiasts from all over the world gathered to take part in this annual event. Four days of networking, workshops and lectures offered both beginners and experienced TYPO3 users a variety of opportunities to expand their knowledge and exchange information about the latest developments in the world of TYPO3. Once again this year, there was an impressive number of participants who attended the Dev Days for the first time.
Before the actual Dev Days began, there was a workshop day this year, which we did not attend. Wolfgang Wagner led a group of nine participants through the new features in TYPO3 13 and showed how integrators can work more effectively with the new version.
The venue: familiar terrain between work and pleasure
Once again this year, the GenoHotel at Rüppur Castle was chosen as the location. The modern conference center, which has hosted the Developer Days for years, was well equipped and offered more than enough space for the various sessions, workshops and networking events.
Keynotes and sessions: First-hand knowledge
The TYPO3 Developer Days 2024 opened with a keynote by Benni Mack, TYPO3 Core Project Lead, who spoke about the latest developments in AI and TYPO3. The topic of AI is on everyone's lips and the TYPO3 ecosystem can also set standards here. However, he emphasized that even the best AI tools do not change the fact that it is first and foremost the people in the community who make TYPO3 what it is. They are the only ones who can drive TYPO3 forward.
Networking: strengthening the community
One of the biggest advantages of the TYPO3 Developer Days is the opportunity to network. This is the only place where people from almost all niches of the community come together on a regular basis. The event also offered numerous opportunities to exchange ideas with other TYPO3 developers, make new contacts and develop ideas together. Whether over lunch, at the evening get-together - either at the bowling alley, at the social event or listening to music with Ralf "t3quetsche" Merz - the TYPO3 community proved to be open and helpful as usual. This also included the annual Coding Night, where, as every year, people not only worked on TYPO3 itself, but also on projects related to it.
The talk by Christian Heilmann from WeAreDevelopers was particularly valuable. He took us on a breathtakingly fast-paced journey of discovery, showing us the wrong turns the web industry has taken in the recent past. Chris observed with concern how even trivial problems nowadays seem to be solved in the most cumbersome way possible. Instead, his credo was to return to the possibilities that web standards and browsers in particular already offer, instead of constantly reinventing the wheel.
Conclusion: A worthwhile event for the TYPO3 community
The TYPO3 Developer Days 2024 were a complete success. The combination of inspiring talks, collaborative work on code and intensive networking opportunities made the event a must for anyone working with TYPO3 or interested in the CMS. The event offered not only technical knowledge, but also the opportunity to be part of a vibrant and engaged community.
For anyone interested in the latest developments in the TYPO3 world and wanting to expand their skills, the Dev Days are mandatory. The mixture of learning, exchange and community experience makes this event special - and the anticipation for the TYPO3 Developer Days 2025 is already palpable. Anyone who has the chance should definitely not miss it next year.
